NEWSLETTER

YIPPEE!!!  Our stetching station has arrived and members are really loving it!  If you have not used it yet, please ask a staff person to help you through it the first few times you workout.

It's that time again!  The month of March is our annual Food Drive Month, dedicated to gathering non-perishable foods to be given to our local food bank.  This year we want to donate healthier items to our community and introduce our community to Curves food products.

A friend can join now by bringing in a bag of groceries, their initial fee will be $30…a $119 savings.  When they join if you bring a bag of groceries you will earn a free t-shirt, it’s the lavender v-neck hanging on the Curvaceous wall.  Be sure to check out the front and back of the shirt, as it has fitness facts that remind you of the commitment you made to yourselves when you joined us.

Please bring in your non-perishable foods, such as wheat pasta, brown rice, canned fruits, canned vegetables and Curves Cereal, Curves Popcorn and Curves Granola bar boxes.  We want to introduce Curves Cereal, Granola bars and Popcorn to the recipients of the food bank in our community.  We also want to create a Curves Cereal pyramid on our wall, how cool will that be!  So when you include Curves food products in your grocery sack, you will be entered in a raffle to win an earth friendly adorable green Curves reusable grocery bags.  These bags hold a lot of groceries and they are so cute.  Bring in as many Curves food products as you want to increase your chances of getting the bags, but more importantly giving back to our community.  For the person who brings in the most Curves Food products, we have a special gift.

In 2008 Curves clubs donated almost 11 million pounds of food to local communities and this year our goal is 15 million.  Last year our club donated 3,000 pounds, what can we do to make that number higher?  One member donated close to 500 pounds, can you top that number?  Let's introduce our community to Curves Cereal, Granola Bars and Popcorn and let's build the biggest pyramid in our club of healthier Curves food products.  With your help, we know we can do it

Game of the month is Deal or No Deal.  So get your 3 workouts in and ask for your entry form.  The Rules are on the wall and we're looking forward to a great response from our committed members.  Keep up the good work or if you haven't been in for awhile, come on in and let us help you get back on track.

SURVIVORS: We still have 6 members that have worked out 3 times a week since August 2005 or before. Remember we do a quarterly survivor and those of you working out 3 times a week during each quarter has your name in for a drawing at the end of the quarter.

If you aren’t satisfied with the results you’re getting: Are working out 3 times a week? Are you getting the most effective workout or socializing and just going through the motions. We want to help you get the workout you are looking for and reach the goals you set when joining us. Staff is here to help you get the most effective workout you can, please ask and one of us will give you a refresher workout if you feel you need a picker-upper.

Please take members and staff that have severe allergies into consideration and wait until you leave Curves to apply your perfume. Last month we actually had one member end up in the hospital because of this.

The government has set a standard of 10,000 steps per day and done a survey that has proven people who wear pedometers burn 100 calories more a day. This may not seem like much, but over a year it adds up to 10 pounds. I challenge you to get a pedometer, average the steps you take the first three days and then work to add 500 steps per day a week and continue that until you reach 10,000 steps per day on a regular basis. We all know we have a busy schedule, but I think you will be amazed at how little we move in a day. The government has also recommended 60 minutes of exercise a day. Your Curves strength training workouts help you firm & tone and improve your metabolism, I do encourage you to add a 30-minute walk daily for your cardiovascular system. 30-minutes will never just open up in your schedule, so make an appointment with yourself and know it’s the most important appointment of your day. It’s never too soon to improve your eating habits (commonly known as diet, but the word diet has gotten a bad reputation.) Plan ahead and make healthier choices. If you are going to a party, don’t avoid eating before going, instead eat food at home that will help you avoid overeating because you’ll make choices based on your hunger level. Drink a glass of water between other beverages and drink 8 glasses of water a day. Thought for the Day: A bad habit never disappears miraculously; it’s an undo-it-yourself project…Abigail Van Buren
